a few updates and doctor who musings

Alas the job at priory didn't work out, was up against a couple of people that had been doing the job for 20 odd years which put me at a slight disadvantage but oh well. i count this as good interview experience and i must have been in the running if i was considered past my application, chalk this one up as a learning experience for now.
In other news house painting has ceased, boiler has been replaced, carpets are being put down today, then we're free to move in! we have a moving van hired for Sunday so we'll do the bulk of the move then (if anyone is around to give a hand moving some boxes on Sunday please give me a shout, a hand is always appreciated :) )

Today has been amusing, my first day off not counting the weekend for a while and i slept in till past midday! I'm guessing this signifies how much sleep debt i have had saved up from getting up at Stupid O' Clock for opens at Costa continually. I did get up at 8 briefly though to make a cup of tea and breakfast for Zoe before she went off to work, didn't make her a packed lunch but she appreciated it all the same :)

In terms of web work,
Team Giblets is now complete as is it's sub domain In my Pants, the web comic by the aforementioned studio.
Its been a fun site to work on, highlights are all the links into the various other media pies team giblets are in from youtube to deviant art along with the shop to sell their various merchandise, with lots of t-shirt previews etc. and comic press is a very fun and powerful solution for web comic back end organisation

Caught up with [info]justmitu & [info]isie last week which was lots of fun, cups of tea, biscuits and chat are always a must, there was also an en-mass msn chat between four or five people such that i was unable to leave the computer for a few hours for fear of missing pages of conversation if i even alt-tabbed for a moment XD. plans are being drawn for a lil' sing star get together next week after i heard that Karla and Mitu had a singstar gathering without me (?!? the shock! the horror! heh) which I'm very much looking forward to after the stress of moving into a new house.

The house has come a loooong way since we started on it and i'm very much looking forward to being settled back into Southsea with my lovely fiancé, her sister Nikki and her boyfriend Luke. Expect photos a plenty and a house-warming shin dig in the near future.

oh and the Doctor Who finale amused me greatly (I CAN HAZ DEUX EX MACHINA NAO RTD?)
( I'm assuming everyones watched it now) did anyone else think it was weird that the Doc thought it was acceptable to leave Rose with his 'still crazy and killing, genocidal, half donna' clone? just saying is all.. :p
good fun though and any excuse to see Davros Mwahahaha'ing and Bwahahaha'ing in quick succession XD
Rumors of a new doctor after the specials are abundant but apparently James Nesbitt (from Cold Feet) are being considered along with Robert Carlyle!!
i think the latter certainly seems more interesting, imagine a Doctor Begby (via Trainspotting reference):

DocBegby: "Get in the TARDIS..."
New Assistant: "But it's just a police bo-.."
*Doc Begby smashes a bottle off the Tardis' door frame*
DocBegby: "GET IN THE F-ING TARDIS!!"

I'd pay to see that :)

Still, Tims a happy camper isn't he? ;)

i'm making a list...checking it once.

Phoned up some schools, colleges, universities for various job roles ranging from teaching assistant to ICT Technician roles, crossing fingers,
Finishing up team giblets website with aim to having it launched this weekend if all the content is finished (www.teamgiblets.co.uk) keep an eye out! :)
Typing up my new CV for dropping in later today to all the agencies in the city.
Dropping into the university's recruitment centre for them to have another look at my cv, test my interview techniques and see if there is any graduate schemes about for me.
Then i'm popping into the new house to take apart a couple of old table units in the lounge and maybe do a little painting.
Around about 4:30 i'm picking up Zoe from work and we're picking up a few more 'doing up the house' bits from Wilkinsons
then finally off to the common to see off a few leaving Costa Coffee peeps (who i'll hopefully be joining in the leaving status if the above goes to plan) for a few drinks

All in all a rather full friday awaits me :)

oh and i watched on bbc's iplayer this morning Coldplay playing outside BBC headquarters, i don't care what others say, i like the band, i like their lyrics. I don't think they could have got this far without having a very decent measure of talent and lets face it they all seem like a nice bunch of people who want to play a bit of music and maybe try to do something good in the world at the same time. How dare they! ;)

and favourite cat macro of the day is as follows:

whats new pussycat?

So what's new?

Okay, I'm moving again!
Friends of mine and Zoe's owned and lived in a house for around 12 years, after they rented a nice place on the seafront and rented their house with a view to paying for their seafront place. They rented it out to a mother and daughter and that was that seemingly...
18 months later the tenants are out! they missed paying rent and they've totalled their old family home. their out. we're in!
We're out of this place by mid-July so in the meantime we'll be painting up and generally rejuvenating the house for our distinguished taste :p
we may need a hand with general white painting at some point so you fine pompey residents may get an invite to a painting party, cue drink, pizza and paint rollers in the near future! :p

summer is here, or it was... okay british weather is hard to stay up to date with but some nice weather has been welcome for the last week, i even hunted down some rollerblades (for a fiver! bargain!) and have been making a prat of myself falling flat on my face with much mirth :)

www.teamgiblets.co.uk is not far away from completion so keep an eye on that, their official site and their first web comic will be up there bookmark for later reference :)

what do you charge for a website?

Work was fine today, bumped into some friends who are running several writing groups, turns out their putting together a compilation book of the group's best writer's works  and setting up a website.
Curious, i asked how much their paying for the site, which is apparently a few pages plus some paypal links in to sell the book,
£3,000... maybe I'm missing something but that seems like a lot, or perhaps its proportional to the amount of time and effort involved, perhaps there is more to the site like community forums and chat etc. at least i would hope so for that price.
Still, got me thinking if i made a site like that for people at that price i would only need to do say 4/5 sites a year to earn the same amount i earn at Costa in a year, with ALOT more free time.
This got me day dreaming and helped pass the day faster but at the same time made me wish i was getting on with it sooner!

Moving in, work, snow and marriage?!

Moving in... went really well actually, i officially count today as the end of the move as i unpacked and flattened the last of my moving boxes. There's something quite cathartic about routing through your sum total of your physical acquisitions in your life so far and chucking a lot! Rediscovered my A-Levels *shudder* complete with grade breakdowns pointing out where i went wrong. For Computing, coursework it seems wasn't my strong point and for Maths...just about everything, Pure Maths definitely not my strong point it seems

Work... has carried on its merry way in that it still sucks but I'm getting on better with the people there and reduced my hours so I'm not working 40 hours a week in a coffee shop anymore. Which is certainly relieving. My reduction of hours now means I'm working 24-32 hours a week, enough to get by, little enough to not go insane. and besides I've found other ways to work. For the last week or two I've helped a regular customer of my shop out with her computer woes. General Wireless networks and set-up of a brand new laptop that made no sense to her and now she can get back to writing her books. Seems there's a large group of authors that just sit around all day drinking coffee and conversing with one another right under my nose all this time! Not only has it been rewarding to see me doing some computer work for a change it has been financially as well, she asked if £20 an hour was adequate which i went for, after a resounding success i think it might be something i get into a bit more on the side. General PC Repairs, Website design and pc lessons. There's a large number of people in the world who have computers but aren't all that sure how to use them. Surely i can help for tidy sum? why not!

Snow... was one of two surprises last Sunday, several inches of April (?!) snow greeted me and Zoe upon waking which were more than happy to go out running about in making snowmen, snowballs the size of a fiat punto and general mucking about in snow i haven't done for several years.
Oh and the other surprise.
I'm Engaged!
Zoe and I had been talking about it for a while beforehand and it seemed we were both enthusiastic about the idea, but finding the ideal time/place/setting was proving taxing. Then, snow in April, a beautiful, unique and once in a lifetime occurrence, all of which i associate also with my meeting Zoe.
We were wandering through the church yard across the road from our house when we found ourselves alone in a quieter part of the church yard, free of footprints bar our own and covering in virgin snow. Plucking up my courage i whipped off her glove much to her protests at freezing her hand off and took her matching commitment ring that we had got for each other a few weeks before. I promptly gave it back to her on one knee when i asked if she would make the rest of our lives as beautiful as this day together. annnnnnd.....
she said yes! :)
We picked out the proper engagement ring yesterday and will be acquiring it soon :) damn the expense!
I can't begin to judge the overwhelming positive effect Zoe has had on my life in every way and promising myself to her and her to me has set us free in so many ways :)

dear diary..

..today i went in to the dentists for a routine check-up.
then proceed to filling
then proceed to tooth actually needing a root canal
then proceed to tooth needing to be pulled out. There and then
now i have a mouth that feels like its full of cotton (as well as actually having a cotton bud over the gaping stump)
on some antibiotics and got the rest of the day off work.
and my tooth pain is now gone owing to it being in a dentist's bin somewhere
funnily enough, i've had worst days :p

Bill Bailey: Tinselworm and Angel: After the Fall

Hello from merry old wales!
sat at my sisters flat in swansea after seeing Bill Bailey Live in Cardiff, last night he was amazing! absolutly great! Kraftwork themed Trouser Press - Segway Hybrid, thats all i have to say ;)
ooh also found the preview for the new Angel comic that is canon and follows on from the end of season 5, its out this month and the five page preview is online here
Looks promising, though the art is a lil misleading in places, i'm sure it gets better as it goes along, its certainly got the right tone, i love a good opening where everything has changed and nothings explained, classic season opening stuff, looking forward to it :)

amazing...

trying to write a worthwhile post, hope this works..

Lacks of posts again on this lj..
damn. i keep doing this.
don't get me wrong, i have opened up the ol' lj website to read my friends pages and i've even gone to write my own post quite frequently, but keep bringing up the page and thinking i don't have anything altogether interesting for you peeps to read :(
this post i've managed to think of a few though :)
I have a lovely girlfriend as of two weeks ago called Zoe (i think most people on my lj friends list already knew this one) its surprised me how much i've become infatuated with her and you know those niggling little things you come across when your first dating someone? there doesn't seem to be...well, any....really! none that i find in the least bit negative and if anything find endearing. so yeah, ridiculous amounts of smiling have occurred and as [info]clare42 has pointed out to me Shmoopy :)
had a nice house party last night, mucho sing star and merry drinking ensued, major kudos to [info]meebles for supplying us the SingStar: Bollywood edition, absolutely amazing cover of Pretty Women complete with rap segment, if your sing star fan DO NOT miss out!
I've been reading a few more comics of late, mostly of the dc and marvel variety, though i've been looking around for a decent online place to discuss them it seems their all US based, does anyone know any UK based discussion threads for graphic novels? something similar to barbelith would be nice, though their membership is closed i enjoyed reading their analysis and speculations of comics these days.
TV wise i've been loving Heroes, the latest episode filling us in on the missing four months has made the initial few episodes of season two make so much more sense now and a bit less stupid in some cases (such queries as why does peter have no shirt and a haircut? etc. are certainly answered)
Dexter season two remains the best thing on television right now, fantastic writing, great actors esp. Michael C. Hall and i have no idea where its going! amazing!
Scrubs season 7 very much follows the philosophy of the last few seasons of Scrubs motto of 'If it ain't broke..' so remains v. amusing!
annnd finally Family Guy's last two episodes have definitely been worthy of note, the two episode titles say it all:
Stewies Kills Lois
Lois kills Stewie
hmm subtly eh? plus any inclusion of black weather reporter Olly Williams is going to get my approval ("IT GONNA RAIN!")

ho hum, thats its for now gentle readers, some random short storie might be coming your way soon, just a heads up ;)
